The Intelligence at Society Competition 2004 was organized by the department of computer science, the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and supported by the Electronics Division, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). There were two sections in the competition, namely the secondary school section and the post-secondary school section respectively. The competition was aimed at arousing the general interests of secondary school students on artificial intelligence (AI) and its related technologies, and most important, how AI could be applied to make our society more efficient and competitive. The deadline of the initial registration was on 10th, July, 2004 and 8 schools were short-listed on 21st, August, 2004. The final participant's poster presentation was held on 10th, November, 2004 and the prize was presented after a distinguished lecture delivered by the father of Fuzzy Logic, Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh .
Based on the criteria of innovation, feasibility, impact to our society and presentation clarity, the Electronics Division together with the judges from different organizations had voted the "Road.Eye" of the St. Paul 's Convent School as the final champion. The first runner-up belonged to the "Alert System for Drowning Swimmers" of Lok Sin Tong Young Ko Hsiao Lin Secondary School. Finally, the Second Runner-up was the "A.I. Venetian Blind" conceived by TWGHs Lui Yun Choy Memorial College.
