Technical Seminar on "HKSTP - A Bridge to the Future"

On 28th, April 2006, a technical seminar on "HKSTP ¡V A Bridge to the Future" was jointly organized by the Electronics Division and the IT Division. The speaker Mr. Carlos Genardini, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSPT), gave a talk to share his vision in the commercialization of applied research and development of the electronics and information technology industries.

Mr. Carlos Genardini, our honorable guest, opened the talk by presenting the alliances and partnerships with industry and academia along with a leading edge infrastructure that is essential in exciting and promoting the highest level of professionalism and sophistication, and alluring talent for the next generation of exciting industries and convergences. Strategic objectives for R&D to Commercialization, and the Technology Laboratory Positioning of the HKSTP on seven broad technology areas, namely Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Precision Engineering, Nanotechnology, Environmental Technology, and Textiles were discussed.

There are various World Class Laboratory Infrastructures in HKSTP, such as the IC centers, Reliability Lab, Photonics Development Support Centre, Wireless Support Centre, Biotech Support Centre, etc., are in place to support the R&D in Hong Kong. The Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) is also believed to be the catalyst for the growth of semiconductor industry since SIP is critical for the design and implementation of complex Integrated Circuits. The commercial availability, quality measures, legal framework and technology adaptation are essential foundation to foster the SIP business.

The seminar ended with a question-and-answer session and a souvenir was presented to Mr. Carlos Genardini, by Ir. Cheung SW \ Chairman of Electronics Division, and Ir. Dr. Chan CL \ chairman of IT Division.
