Ir Dr Shum Yu Hing, Chairman of HKIE Electronics Division 2024/2025 Session

It is my great pleasure and honour to be elected the Chairman of the END for Session 2024/2025. Firstly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our Past Chairmen for their distinguished leadership, and our Committee Members, Observers, and helpers for their contributions. Riding on the solid foundation built up by our Past Chairmen, I am humbled to follow in their footsteps to move forward.

We will continue to organise our signature and flagship events, such as the Hong Kong Electronics Symposium which received a tremendous response in May 2024, the Hong Kong Electronics Project Competition which was well-received by the Industry and Tertiary Institutions in Mar 2024, and our highly anticipated Annual Dinner which was held in Jun 2024. These events provide our members and industry practitioners with valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and connecting with experts in the electronics, communications and related engineering industry.

To echo with the new President’s Presidential Theme, “Grow the Nexus, Link the Links”, to acts as an intermediary between Mainland’s engineering stakeholders and those situated overseas, regular visits and seminars, especially extending to GBA, will be organised. This is in line with the MOU signed in Jun 2024 between our Division and GuangDong Institute of Electronics (廣東省電子學會).

“Nurturing the Youth” is so important that contributes to the sustainable development of Society. We will continue to focus particularly on activities with STEAM elements, e.g., STEM Electronics Bootcamp held in Aug 2023, which aim to ignite young people’s interest in electronics engineering and encourage them to join the engineering industries in the future.

The Division will keep up the momentum and continue to organise high-value activities, with the mission of promoting excellence and professionalism in the field of electronics, communications and related engineering, especially under the sustainable development on Smart City.

All these initiatives and activities will only be successful with your unwavering support and active participation. I look forward to seeing you and your friends all in our coming events.
