Program Highlight

In this forum, we have invited three honorable speakers to share their valuable experience in developing AR/VR applications in Hong Kong. All speakers have been participated in the related areas for many years with great success. In addition, this workshop features a forum discussion on recent development of Smart City applications.

   Augmented reality/Virtual reality (AR/VR) are one of the vital themes in IT Fest 2017. Augmented reality (AR) which overlays virtual 3D graphics onto our view of the real world while virtual reality (VR) which immerses us in 360 degree views of artificially create sensory experiences in new worlds. The fascination of AR or VR lead us down to the very different paths in entertainment, gaming, commercial, communication and industry. Goldman Sachs report predicted that the VR/AR market size will reach 80 billion US dollars in revenue by 2025. This is one of the most prospective area for our technological development in Hong Kong.

The Forum is divided into three AR/VR application areas:

1.     Gaming /Commercial applications

  The AR/VR gaming industry is to provide an immersive, interactive 3D high quality reality environment to players with a visual story. Moreover, the AR/VR techniques can be further extended to commercial applications such as product introduction in Estate Realty etc.

2.     Culture Science & Arts applications;

  "Dunhuang Grottoes" Interactive Exhibition gained a great success in China recently. Through the success of new developed AR/VR technologies, visitors can explore the Dunhuang area virtually. Similar arrangements can be implemented to Art or Science Museum such that visitors can learn about the electromagnetic wave propagation where their kids can interactive with dinosaur that leaving at stone age.

3.     Wireless Telecommunications for VR/AR technology

  In order to generate a high quality reality environment, a lot of 3D data needs to be processed and transmitted through wireless technology in real time. Technical parameters such as modulation techniques, channel encoding and error performance will be a important issue for discussion at practical implementation.

The forum will discuss recent development on telecommunication including 5G and IoT platforms, smart energy, and cyber security.
