Overview on the Smart Technologies in Video Surveillance Applications

Date, time & venue

2017-07-21;18:30-20:00;HKIE Headquarter 9/F - Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room

Jointly organized by CAD, AMC & END

Programme Highlights

The global market for video surveillance systems is projected to exceed US$30B by 2020.  Asia Pacific represents the largest and fastest growing market with a CAGR of 16% over the analysis period.  The above prediction was made by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., a US-based market research institute.

Security solutions and systems represent a vital component in the security plans of governments, property owners and organizations across the globe.  One of the most promising electronic security solutions, video surveillance systems is witnessing strong growth driven by the rising need to secure people, assets and critical infrastructures.

Have you ever involved in implementing and operating video surveillance systems for your organization?

In the seminar, Dr. Ma will introduce a number of smart technologies and share the experiences on how these technologies can revolutionize the video surveillance applications and maximize the return on investment.

Speaker:

Dr. Wallace Ma has been working in the security industry for over 20 years.  He has extensive knowledge on digital signal processing and telecommunication technologies.  He is the Chief Executive Officer of WAMA Technology Ltd. and it focuses on developing a global brand consisting of a comprehensive range of professional video surveillance solutions.

Dr. Ma is sitting in the executive committee of the Hong Kong Security Association.  He obtained his bachelor and Ph. D. degrees from the Department of Electronic Engineering in the City University of Hong Kong.

Seminar Report on Overview on the smart technologies in video surveillance applications

By Martin Siu

The captioned seminar was jointly organised by the CAD, EN Divisions and the AMC on 21 July 2017 with 70 members attended. The speaker was Dr Wallace Ma, CEO of WAMA Technology Ltd., focusing on developing professional video surveillance solutions.

Dr Ma introduces a number of smart technologies and shares the experience on how these technologies can revolutionize the video system. Traffic control system is a smart technology in video surveillance application on number plates recognition and location of running vehicles. Images of full high definition (FHD) at 1080p and 4K (4,000 pixels) Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolutions are required nowadays. The sophisticated camera of star technology is the revolutionised back-illuminated structure, the incident light passes through on chip lens and colour filters on the reverse side of silicon (Si) surface, the Si substrate photo diodes accept the light and connect the metal wiring and transistors conduction arrangement producing quality images. The improved complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor featured a high sensitivity and lower random noise in video images. Also, facial recognition of video analytics is the latest video application on searching recognised or non-recognised persons or objects with specified characteristics. The mass video data is stored and retrieval for analysed.

Dr Ma and his team demonstrate the 12 Megapixels (MP) 3600 fisheye camera, 4K H.265 compact dome internet protocol (IP) camera and a 36-channel H.265 network video recorder for preview and playback control in a HD-Network real time management system. He explains H.265, is known as high efficiency video coding (HEVC), a video compression standard for video recording. The video operating time is up to 30 days. The resolutions are original fisheye view of 2048 x 2048, double panoramic view and unwrapped view are both at 1920 x 1080. Finally, data protection is important. Video data encryption and de-encryption are operated in advanced level.

During the Q & A session, the participants show great interests in knowing more about the latest video surveillance technologies.
