Introduction of the Webinar

The Basic Telecom Fundamentals will provide introduction to Data Networking with the following topics. During the workshop, our speakers will share basic knowledge and experience in Data Networking. And the audience would acquire an idea of the telecom terms and technical jargons.

Speaker 1:

Mr. H.W. Chan

Head of Operations Innovation Hub

Mr. H.W. Chan is a widely experienced Engineering Manager, Communications, Control and Network, who has over 30 years of related exposures, most of which have been associated with the MTR Corporation in Hong Kong. Mr. Chan has broad experience in a number of railways around the region with in-depth knowledge in many Internet of Things, telecom and control facilities in use by railways. He leads a team of managers and engineers to drive innovation and technology development by introducing smart technologies for enhancement of railway safety, operations and maintenance efficiency as well as customer experience.

Mr. Chan is also responsible for network and cyber security of all Operation Technology (OT), overseeing the corporate data network, cyber security infrastructure and all connected communication and control systems of the Hong Kong railway. He also manages a Data Studio to support all the data processing needs arising from the railway operations and maintenance.

He holds a Bachelor degree of Science in Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. He is also a Chartered Engineer of UK, a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), a member of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Ms. Joyce Chan

B.Eng.(Hons.), MPhil, CISSP

Senior Operations Network and Cyber Security Manager

MTR Corporation Limited

 

Ms. Joyce Chan is Senior Operations Network and Cyber Security Manager in MTR Corporation Limited.  She leads a team of engineering professionals to provide data network, security infrastructure and communications systems design and support services for the Operating Railway.  She has over 10 years of experience in the field.  She plays a key role in the cyber security governance of the MTR operating railways, and is responsible for establishing security design standards and procedures for the operational technology (OT) systems.  Ms. Chan holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and a Master of Philosophy degree from The University of Hong Kong.  She also holds a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.

 

 

Speaker 3:

Dr. Billy Tam 

B.Eng., PhD, CEng, SMIEEE, MHKIE, MIET, MIRSE

Senior Design Engineer-Communications

MTR Corporation Limited

 

Dr Billy Tam is a professional railway engineer in MTR and an active participant in innovation projects.  He has over 10 years of experience in the railway industry, who also received recognitions in various competitions on innovations both locally and internationally.  He received the B.Eng. and PhD degrees in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and was specialized in advanced wireless technologies and communication theory.  He is also a Chartered Engineer of UK, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE).  Furthermore, he is experienced in the applications of artificial intelligence, computer vision, video analytics, and Internet of Things in railway.  He has been a training tutor of Scheme “A” Graduate Training of HKIE since 2017, and is now an engineering supervisor of the scheme.
