Programme Highlight

Internet-of-things (IoT) is one of the most vital building blocks in the development of Smart Cities. In the coming decade, there will be hundreds of billions of IoT connections. IoT will find applications in all walks of our lives, to name a few, facility and energy management, healthcare, transportation, logistics, aviation, fin-tech, manufacturing, and many others. Nonetheless, the ever-growing IoT market may pose various critical challenges on cybersecurity and data privacy, property, healthcare, ….. For instance, non-harmonization due to interference or incompatibility among IoT devices may result in deteriorating the quality- of-service of IoT networks. In essence, the IoT devices and networks often omit security and privacy measures. Such low-cost designs without any compliances will be a vulnerability for cyberattacks, and they will potentially incur data leakage. An international standard, IEEE 2668, on the Internet-of-things maturity index, referred to as the IDex, has been developed to overcome those challenges. IDex measures the maturity of IoT solutions and technologies and assists consumers, companies, policy-makers to compare, develop, and select IoT solutions efficiently for property technology and applications. The quantified evaluation by IDex aids many applications including but not limited to the reduction in reconciliation costs, efficiency of decision making, carbon reduction efficiency, progress of international integration, and market integrity…etc.

Speaker

Dr. KF Tsang is the CEO of i-Forging Alliance Limited (IFA). KF specializes in AIoT and smart X applications. KF was awarded the Internet of Things Heros Award by GS1 IoT Council in 2016 and the 2021 IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society (PSES) Outstanding Achievement Award. KF serves the community in multiple capacities: President of Greater Bay Area 5G Industry Alliance, Honorary Advisor Committee; Director of Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM); Council member of HKIE (2020-21); Ad Hoc Technical Committee, Smart Lamppost, OGCIO, Hong Kong Government (2021); committee member SSAC, OFCA, Hong Kong Government. In particular, Tsang contributes to key IoT standards on smart sensors and IoT performance evaluation. KF was the inventor of the global IEEE Standard 2668 Maturity Index of Internet-of- Things (approved by IEEE in December 2022). He has been a consultant to the HK government EMSD on IoT standards and Best Practices and also an Assessor for HOKLAS Assessment.

KF is the Chairman of the Standards Committee, IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics; an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial informatics; an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics; an Associate Editor of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine; as well as the Editor (Electrical) of HKIE Transactions.
